Bluewater Re-Organizes Fire Department

The Municipality of Bluewater has re-organized its fire department.

Mayor Tyler Hessel explains in the past Bluewater had four separate fire departments in Bayfield, Brucefield, Zurich and Hensall, and a shared department with South Huron in Dashwood.

That should have meant four separate chiefs as well, so council has now re-configured the fire departments into one Bluewater Fire Department with four regional stations with four regional chiefs.

Hessel adds they've also made a small change to their cross-border billing.

He points out in the past when a service was delivered to another municipality or to the MTO in the event of an accident on a provincial highway, a bill might be submitted to the municipality or the MTO to cover that cost.

But Hessel admits the billing has been very sporadic in the past and going forward they're going to bill on a more regular and consistent basis.

Hessel says the cross-boarder billing doesn't change anything that already exists, it just enforces existing policy.
