First Tornado Of Season Confirmed Near Clifford

Environment Canada has confirmed that a tornado occurred near Clifford Wednesday afternoon.

The weather agency says the first tornado of the season occurred around 3:30pm and was about 3.5 km long and up to 200 m wide. The wind was estimated at 170 km/h.

Three bolted-down grain bins were ripped off their cement bases and blown up to 200 m away. The corner of a barn was also severely damaged, as were a number of trees.

In other areas in the region, wind gusts reached up to 70-80 km/h and there were reports of small hail.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
