Ice Storm Potential For Midwestern Ontario

We may be only three days into Spring, but it seems Old Man Winter is set to make another appearance in Midwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement Monday afternoon for Huron, Bruce, Grey, Perth and Wellington Counties.

Severe Weather Meteorologist Rob Khun says they're currently tracking two systems that are moving their way toward the region.

He says the smaller one will bring some snow and rain on Tuesday and the larger one will bring significant freezing rain by Wednesday.

"I think the most likely result of this is going to be freezing rain warnings with a fair amount of freezing rain occurring and maybe some significant ice secretion.  Be prepared for rain freezing on the roads or becoming icy or freezing rain falling and folks may have to consider adjusting their travel plans and stuff accordingly as we are expecting, at a minimum, winter driving conditions at least for the next few days," says Kuhn.

The heaviest freezing rain event is expected to hit the region Wednesday night into Thursday.

Kuhn says weather conditions are expected to improve by the weekend or as early as Friday.
