High Water Levels Expected In The Ausable Bayfield Watershed

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is warning of the high water due to the storm system that will bring rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the region tonight and tomorrow.

Staff are monitoring the watershed as the storm tracks through the region.

It has the potential to bring 30-50 mm of precipitation. If rainfall is in the upper range of the prediction, water levels could exceed those observed during minor flooding events earlier this winter.

Flows are expected to increase Thursday, peak on Friday, and remain high through the Easter Weekend into next week.

Any flooding is expected to be minor and limited to traditional flood plain areas.

Residents are reminded to avoid watercourses due to frigid water, slippery unstable banks, and fast flows.
