Suspect Arrested In Theft Of Forklift

Owen Sound police have arrested a man after he allegedly tried to steal a forklift Saturday afternoon.

According to police, several harbour area workers had been on break at around 1:30pm when a man suddenly hopped into the driver seat of a telescopic forklift on the harbour wall, and proceeded to drive away, southbound toward the downtown core.

Police say the workers gave chase and managed to bring the forklift to a halt, while the man fled the area.

A suspect was later arrested in the area.

A 27-year-old man, who is currently under probation related conditions, faces a number of charges including theft under $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with probation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
