Mental Health Crisis Team Ready To Respond In Grey County

Grey County's Paramedic Services has introduced a program to have mental health professionals on the scene of a mental health crisis as quickly as possible.

In the past, paramedics would arrive at the scene and decide if the crisis team was needed.

Director of Paramedic Services Mike Muir says under the new system, the team will be sent to the scene directly by dispatchers, so that paramedics and mental health professionals arrive at the scene around the same time.

The Canadian Mental Health Association has developed a crisis response team.

Muir calls it "the first of its kind in Ontario."
