Doogie Cup Marks 10th Anniversary

The 10th Annual Doogie Cup Girls Rugby Tournament is on this Friday in Walkerton.

There are 20 teams taking part in the event including five junior and 15 senior teams from as far away as Exeter, Sarnia and Orangeville. The games will be played at three locations: Sacred Heart High School, Walkerton District Community School and Mother Teresa Elementary School.

The tournament is in honour of former Sacred Heart Student and rugby player Allison Dugas. Dugas was killed in a car crash in 2006.

Convenor and Coach of the Sacred Heart Girls Rugby team, Bill King says it's a friendly tournament where no scores are kept. Players each get a long-sleeved dry-fit Doogie Cup t-shirt.

Opening ceremonies are at 8:30 a.m. on Friday at Sacred Heart High School.
