Integrity Commissioner Unable To Attend Southgate Council Meeting

A former Southgate councillor wants to know how much it cost the municipality to investigate three integrity commissioner complaints.

As it turned out, all three complaints against two Southgate councillors, Deputy Mayor Norm Jack and Councillor John Woodbury, were recently thrown out by the integrity commissioner.

Pat Franks said one earlier integrity commissioner complaint cost Southgate in excess of $4,000 in legal fees.

She suggests that anyone making such a complaint should have to pay a fee if the complaint is determined to be unfounded.

Southgate council was expecting to hear from a provincial integrity commissioner last night.  Harold Elston of Collingwood was scheduled to discuss his report in which he determined the complaints were unfounded.

But due to a scheduling mix-up, Elston will deliver his report at the next meeting of Southgate council, May 18.
