Solar Expansion Expected In Southgate

Southgate will not create a task force to look into solar proposals.

Samsung Power is in the process of building a 50 megawatt solar farm in the former Egremont Township, and the company has indicated it would like to build a second one of the same size.

The initial proposal was controversial, and Councillor Christine Gordon - who proposed the task force - said it would save council time and be a way to tap into the knowledge held by local residents.

But Deputy Mayor Norm Jack said the existing system appears to be working well with the first solar farm, and a task force would just cost more money.
