Owen Sound Secondary Schools Merger Makes Progress

The Bluewater District School Board is moving forward with the merger of Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute at West Hill Secondary in Owen Sound.

Students have more course offerings available as a result of the change coming in September.

The popularity of the options has resulted in the reopening of a previously closed tech shop at West Hill.

In the meantime, a naming committee has been struck to help facilitate the establishment of the newly combined school's identity. The committee will reach out to the public for ideas on the name, colours, and a mascot.

Collaboration between staff from the two sites continues as staff assess inventory and review curriculum.

Current principals Lucy Hilts and Matthew Pickett will be co-principals of the new school.

Administrators are currently working on student and staff timetables which should be available in June.

Families from the closing Derby Public School in Kilsyth are choosing which school they want to attend in September.
