Meaford And Owen Sound To Host Governor General

Final preparations are being made today in Meaford and Owen Sound for the Governor General's visit Friday.

The Right Honourable David Johnston will be at the Meaford Opera House at 10am Friday to present Meaford with it's new coat of arms and insignia.

Meaford is also re-naming a park in honour of the Queen's representative in Canada. The park beside the Meaford Coast Guard Station will be dedicated as David Johnston Park.

From there, he travels to Owen Sound for a noon luncheon at the Harmony Centre on 4th Ave. E. Members of the Community Foundation Grey Bruce are hosting the luncheon.

The governor general is scheduled to attend a Presentation of Regimental Colours to the Grey and Simcoe Foresters during a ceremonial parade at the Owen Sound Coliseum Grounds, beginning at 2:30pm Friday afternoon. The Grey and Simcoe Foresters is a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces.

His Excellency David Johnston will attend the New Colours Dinner at the Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound Friday evening.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
