Memorial Bench Stolen In Listowel

A grey granite memorial bench has been stolen from the North Perth Trail.

Perth County OPP say the bench was hauled off its cement pad at Riverview Dr. and Havelock Ave. S in Listowel sometime last Friday night.

The bench weighs several hundred pounds and is valued about about $3,500.

The bench has engraving on the backrest in memory of Tom and Mary Turbitt.

“It was disturbing to hear about this theft, as this is an item with extreme sentimental value to the Turbitt family, and was something that was placed there for the entire community to enjoy," says North Perth OPP Contract Sergeant Scott Bentley.  "It is my hope that anyone with information about this theft will come forward and talk to us."

The North Perth OPP is requesting anyone with information about this theft, or who knows the whereabouts of the bench, to contact Constable Kevin Walker at the North Perth OPP Detachment. He can be reached at (519) 291-1414, you may also call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
