Stratford And Southampton Receive Provincial Arts Grants

Ontario has handed out over $1.6-million to arts and culture organizations including several in midwestern Ontario.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport is giving the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Shakespeare 400 group $250,000 as it celebrates the milestone.

The money will help for expanded seating at productions, and an enhanced line up, including the North American premiere of "Shakespeare in Love" with Disney Theatricals, the world premiere of "the Breath of Kings."

Southampton Arts Society will received $5,000 for the new Southampton Artwalk. It combines the annual Art on the Fence show, with the Up Your Alley outdoor artisan market.

It will include performances at Bruce County Playhouse, and interactive community painting at the Southampton Arts School July 30.

The Ontario Heritage Trust received $175,000 for the Doors Open Ontario Program which allows visiting days at some of Ontario's intriguing heritage sites.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
