Charges Pending After Mount Forest Apartment Fire

A fire fighter was taken to hospital after a ceiling collapsed on him during a call to a Mount Forest apartment building.

Chief Dave Guilbault says they were called to 150 Queen St. about 11:00 Sunday morning to find heavy smoke, and flames coming through the roof.

15 tenants and three cats were evacuated unhurt, but a firefighter is recovering from head and neck injuries.

Guilbault says it was very disturbing to find 4 of the ten units were not protected by smoke alarms.

He says there is zero tolerance for that life threatening action, and they will pursue charges.

Damage adds up to $500,000.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was on the scene Sunday and Monday, and suspects the cause of the fire is electrical.
