Huron Bruce MPP Claims Questions Social Housing Retrofit Plan

PC Cap and Trade Critic Lisa Thompson says the provincial government is ignoring people in need as the social housing waiting list is now over 170,000 families

The MPP for Huron Bruce adds the premier is instead justifying the $1.9-billion in predicted revenue from cap and trade by directing the money to existing programs and subsidy schemes.

Thompson says the funding announcement is part of a radical climate plan to ban natural gas heating, and increase the average home heating bill by $3,000 a year.

She says combating climate change should not be about raising new money for government programming. She says it should be about reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while keeping the cost of living and working in Ontario affordable.
