Upper Grand Enrollment Report Shows Many Unused Spaces At Norwell D.S.S

An enrollment report for Upper Grand District Secondary Schools shows a lot of empty student spaces at Norwell District Secondary School in Palmerston.

Norwell District Secondary is expected to be underutilized right up to 2020, but space in the remaining high schools within the board area is expected to be well utilized.

A staff report to the board shows about 67% of the student spaces are used at Norwell. The school has had nearly 300 extra spaces for four years.

Staff says that meets the criteria for forming facility partnerships, and suggests that's something the board can pursue in the the future.

Enrollment at Wellington Heights Secondary School is right on target at about 83% this year.

The board also fills spaces with international students, with 225 attending high schools in the region this year, including both Wellington Heights and Norwell.
