Art Showcase In Owen Sound To Break The Stigma Of Sexual Violence

The Coordinator of the "Into The Open Art Showcase and Concert" in Owen Sound hopes the event will bring the issue of sexual violence out in the open and start a conversation.

Owen Sound's Heartwood Concert Hall will host showcase from 1pm - 4pm on Sunday afternoon.

Jon Farmer says the free concert features some great performers who want to bring the issue to the forefront.

Entertainers include Larry Jensen, Richard Garvey, Shawna Caspi and open mic spots alongside poetry all inspired by the theme.

Farmer says they want to break down the stigma using art as a form of expression.

He says a third of people have experienced sexual violence.

Farmer says, "Seeing this art, and listening to this art can do a lot to begin to break the ice and make it possible to have these conversations, because in the silent stigmatized shadows, this issue continues, but if we can bring it into the open we can begin to make change."
