Big Drop In Local Unemployment Rate

There is a drop in the local unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula economic region.

May's rate dropped to 5.6% from April's mark of 6.2%.

There were 1,100 more people working full-time jobs month to month. However, part-time worker dropped by 2,500 jobs.

In the goods producing sector in the region, there were losses in the agriculture portfolio in May but gains in construction and manufacturing. In the services producing sector, accommodation and food services and wholesale trade saw the highest gain in employment with 800 each. There were drops in healthcare and social services and in scientific and technical services.

The national unemployment rate is 6.9%.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
