Wiarton Highway Depot Destroyed by Fire

An early morning fire has destroyed the Highways Depot Building in Wiarton.

Bruce County Warden, Mitch Twolan, tells CKNX the building has been deemed a complete loss.

"There was a fire early this morning that destroyed most of the building, I believe it's a write-off," says Twolan. "Obviously there was a bunch of works equipment inside the shop including some tandems and some patrol vehicles and other equipment."

Twolan says he's on his way to the site and thanks the hard work of both the South Bruce Peninsula OPP and South Bruce Peninsula Fire Service for extinguishing the blaze.

There were no injuries reported and no estimate as of yet regarding the damage to the building.

The Ontario Fire Marshall's Office will not be investigating as the cause has been determined to be failure of internal equipment.
