Funding Model For Conservation Authorities Reviewed

The funding mechanism for conservation authorities is a priority in the second round of public consultations. That second round ends September 9.

The general manager of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, Brian Horner, says over 70 conservation authority officials and other stakeholders were at a recent consultation in London.

Horner points the funding mechanism hasn't been updated in about 20 years.

Other priorities in this second round of consultations include:

  • Strengthening oversight and accountability in decision making
  • Increasing clarity and consistency in roles and responsibilities, processes and requirements
  • Improving collaboration and engagement among parties involved in resource management
  • Enhancing flexibility for the Province to update the Conservation Authority Act framework in the future
