Unwanted Visitor In Owen Sound Apartment

An Owen Sound woman had an unexpected guest last night.

Police received a call from a woman on 2nd Ave. E, reporting there was a scorpion in her apartment.  The woman had captured the giant insect in a plastic tub.

An investigation determined that a neighbour had rescued the scorpion from an acquaintance over the weekend, and thought that the scorpion’s enclosure was escape-proof.

The Emperor Scorpion has a sting that range from mild and harmless -- to severe, in cases where someone is allergic to the venom.

Police believe the scorpion falls within the Prohibited Animal appendix of Owen Sound’s By-law to Regulate the Keeping of Certain Animals.  The investigation is continuing.
