Crews Battle House Fire in Port Elgin

Firefighters from both the Port Elgin and Southampton stations of the Saugeen Shores Fire Department were called to a house fire on Buckby Lane in Port Elgin Monday afternoon.

CKNX Reporter Jordan MacKinnon is on scene and reports that nobody was home at the time of the blaze.

"Smoke and flames were visible coming through the roof," says MacKinnon.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down quickly.

"All the owners were outside so there was nobody injured; we can tell by looking at it, the house is pretty much devastated," says Sgt. Dave Butcher of the Saugeen Shores Police Service.

There is no word yet as to the cause of the fire or whether any nearby homes were damaged as a result.

We'll have more information as it becomes available.
