Canada Revenue Scam Targets Multiple Owen Sound Residents

Owen Sound Police have received multiple complaints about unknown persons targeting citizens with a Canada Revenue Agency Scam.

Police say a message is left indicating the victim must call back immediately to remedy an outstanding debt to the CRA.

In many cases, the victim calls back. The fraudster will ask for crucial information such as a social Insurance Number or credit card number.

Sometimes they will ask the victim to purchase iTunes cards online, and supply the information to pay the debt.

Victims are threatened with arrest unless they pay off the fictitious debt right away.

Police encourage residents to hang up on these calls, and report the fraud.

You can report it to the government on their website www.cra.gc.ca/fraudprevention or the Owen Sound Police at 519-376- 1234.
