Huron Perth Employer Commits To Living Wage

Libro Credit Union will ensure all 660 staff earn a living wage rate in 25 Southwestern Ontario communities.

CEO Stephen Bolton says its a strategy to reduce poverty and increase positive outcomes.

He says it fosters social inclusion and supports quality of life for staff.

He adds growing regional prosperity helps address complex social issues to strengthen communities.

The Social Research and Planning Council found a living wage for Huron and Perth counties would help lift children out of poverty by offering basic economic security.

For Perth and Huron County, the living wage amount has been calculated as being $16.47 an hour.

It also says employers who pay living wages report lower turnover and absenteeism rates.
