Close Call for Pedestrian, Alleged Impaired Driver Nabbed

A North Perth man is facing a number of charges after allegedly driving while impaired and almost hitting a pedestrian.

Provincial Police say a pedestrian walking on Tremaine Avenue South, in Listowel, was almost hit by a Honda van just before 10 o'clock on Sunday night.

The van had pulled into a nearby parking lot.

Noticing alcohol on the driver's breath, the shaken pedestrian reached in and removed the keys from the ignition, at which point the driver walked away.

Police located the driver a while later and arrested him.

It turns out the driver, 66-year-old Paul Griffin of North Perth, was also suspended from driving and was using license plates not registered to the vehicle and improper ownership where the vehicle was not even registered in his name.  Not to mention, having no insurance on the vehicle.

Griffin is due to appear in a Listowel Court on August 24th, 2016.
