Hometown Heroes Raises $40K

Thursday night's third annual Hometown Heroes Raise a Little Health Charity Hockey Game in Goderich raised more than $40,000.

Toronto Blue Jays all-star right fielder Jesse Barfield got  his first win in his debut as a hockey coach, sort of.  His Team Devereaux was up 6-4 on Team O'Reilly until the unusual shoot out. The final score was 9-9.

Barfield says he was really impressed by what he saw. He was particularly surprised by how fast big players move and what they can do with the puck.  Barfield explains he got some exposure to the game when he was in Toronto and he watches the game whenever he can but being on the bench is a whole different experience.

Barfield was introduced to the area for the baseball camps that were held recently in Clinton and Kincardine through his agent Francine Birken and says he really enjoys the Huron-Bruce area and the people and can hardly wait to come back.

The money raised will go to  the Goderich-Huron YMCA’s Strong Kids program, the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health and the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital.
