Bruce Grey MP Says National Defence Plan Must Be Realistic

The MP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound says the world has changed, and Canada can no longer act as the world's peacekeepers.

Larry Miller met with military members in Barrie yesterday about the federal review of national defence policy that is underway

Larry Miller says the federal government is a pacifist government, and he wants to ensure the policy is also practical and realistic.

"Everybody wants to go back to the day when Canadian soldiers only did peacekeeping. Well that would be great in a real perfect world. Well we aren't in a perfect world. So I really question the practicality of that and at the same time the safety of our soldiers." Miller says.

He adds the world has changed, and the days of being a country known for peace keeping are over. Miller says comments from citizens and military members who attended yesterday's session will be forwarded to the federal government as it prepares a new national defence policy paper due out early next year.
