Chepstow Diamonds Host Provincial Championship

Chepstow is hosting the Provincial Championship for Intermediate Ladies Fast Pitch.

There are five teams competiting in the event: the Windsor Wild, Whitby Eagles, Bytown Belles, East York and the host Chepstow Fritz Construction Lady Diamonds.

Diamonds' Coach Vince Mullin says they bid to host the tournament back in November.

"There's a fair amount of work getting it all set up but our local Lion's Club is behind us 100%, helping out with everything," Mullin says. "We've got score keepers arrange and Fritz Construction is our sponsors. We're really looking forward to hosting the tournament this year."

Mullin says the Diamonds have already competed in tournaments in St. Catharines, Ancaster and Innerkip this year.

"The girls have been holding their own. The competition can be pretty tough and we've certainly come up against some good teams," he says. "We're holding our own and we can stay with them."

Games start Friday at 8:30pm at Lion's Park in Chepstow. The winners can advance to the National Championship in PEI later this month.
