New Threat Management and Lockdown Procedures Recommended For Wellington Schools

Wellington County residents can help shape a new protocol for police relationships and responses to occurrences at schools and school boards.
The protocol has been updated with stronger language on threat management and awareness services, including new bomb, lockdown and violence prevention procedures.
The hope is to create safe and accepting schools to promote the well being of students.
The partnership will promote positive behaviour, identified risks associate with antisocial or criminal behavior, and outline appropriate reactions.
The protocol covers everything from suspected drug abuse and  child abuse, to  bullying or dealing with students with special needs.
People can read the draft protocol, and submit online feedback by the end of September.
The Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board will work with local police services to maintain a positive relationship between officers, administrators, staff, students, parents and other members of the school community.
