Fire Safety Bill In Memory Of Two North Perth Firefighters

Perth Wellington's MPP will introduce a bill at Queen's Park to address a safety issue that contributed to the deaths of two North Perth firefighters.

Randy Pettapiece says truss and lightweight construction buildings can reach structural failure in six minutes, much faster than solid wood joists.

He will ask the province to copy local bylaws which require an emblem on the doors of buildings with lightweight construction.

This fall Pettapiece will introduce the bill named after Ken Rea and Ray Walter who died when the roof collapsed during a fire at a dollar store in Listowel in March 2011.

“My bill is named after Ken Rea and Ray Walter, who lost their lives in service to their community,” says Pettapiece. “If passed, this bill will add a measure of safety to responding firefighters. It could very well save lives.”
