New North Perth Recreation Complex May Include Solar Panels

North Perth Parks and Recreation Director Steve Hardie is investigating the idea of placing solar panels on the roof of the new Steve Kerr Memorial Complex.

A report says the site where the complex is being built is in a viable location for a Net Metered Solar system.

Hardie says a system sized for 250 kW of AC power would offset 65% of the projected energy use of the arena, and could be expanded in the future when the pool is developed.

Net metering allows energy credits to be generated with any excess power in a given month rolled forward to the next month, up to 11 months.

The system would cost about $675,000. but the proposal will be reviewed when new utility rates are released.
