Annual Canada 911 Ride Rolls Into Meaford

Hundreds of motorcycle riders across Canada are on the road on Saturday as part of the Canada 911 Ride that is also happening right here in Ontario.

The local ride left the Nottawasaga Inn Saturday morning and was due to arrive at the Fire Hall in Meaford around mid-day.

Rick Harrison, fire chief for the Township of Brock, tells CKNX News that he's been involved in the ride for almost nine years now.

The ride itself raises funds that go toward supporting families of firefighters, policemen and other first responders who have lost someone in the line of duty.

The funds also now support military personnel and the battle against post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

"They also raise funds for victims of violent crimes, public access defibrillators and of course a new program with the Canadian Armed Forces to support the military in different ways such as PTSD," says Harrison.

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Bill Walker was expected to be in Meaford Saturday afternoon to take part in the event.
