Teen Drowns Off Gobles Grove In Saugeen Shores

A 15-year-old has drowned while swimming with friends off of Gobles Grove in Saugeen Shores.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service says on Sunday around 6:24pm, emergency crews responded to the area near County Rd. 25 after getting a report that a young male swimmer had disappeared underwater and could not be found.

Three boys had reportedly been swimming when the current started to pull them further into deep waters. A50 year-old man from Toronto ran into the water and was able to help one of the boys to shore, while another was able to make his way on his own. The third disappeared under the waves.

Firefighters found the boy who was unresponsive. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful and the 15-year-old from Brampton was pronounced dead in hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The boy’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
