Bruce County Warden Appointed To SWIFT Board

Bruce County Warden Mitch Twolan has been appointed to serve on the inaugural Board of Directors for SWIFT.

Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology Incorporated is the organization that was established by the Western Ontario Warden’s Caucus to oversee the installation and build out of the Rapid Fibre Technology for the Southwestern Ontario region.

The Canadian and Ontario governments recently announced commitments of $90-million each towards construction of an ultrahigh speed fibre optic network for the Southwestern Ontario and Niagara Region.

Bruce County council is supporting the initiative with a ten-year, $172,000 per year commitment.

"Ultra-high speed internet is critical to the economic sustainability of Bruce County," says Twolan. "Bruce County was a supporter of the initiative from the outset five years ago and we have dedicated staff and financial resources in an effort to ultimately secure joint funding from other levels of government. It is a real honour for me to serve among this board and to advance this critical initiative."
