Pretrial For Southgate Man Charged After Fatal Crash

A Southgate man is in Walkerton court today for a pretrial related to a crash that killed two women.

West Grey police have charged 22-year-old Joseph Schouten with careless driving and failing to stop at a stop sign.

The collision north of Ayton on January 23 took the lives of 52-year-old Ruth Weiser of Mount Forest and her mother, 81 year-old Joan Weiser of West Grey.

Schouten was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the crash.

The OPP technical traffic investigators were also investigating.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
