Energy Minister Touts Liberal Electricity Rate Plan

Provincial Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says his government's plan to reduce hydro rates will help the people who need it most.

The Liberal government is removing the 8% portion of the retail sales tax from hydro bills. As well it's increasing the break rural residents get on their hydro bills.

"So what we've done is brought forward the single largest saving on electricity bills in Ontario's history and so what we're doing is making sure this going to be implemented by January 1," says Thibeault.

He made the comments in an interview Bruce Power after addressing a crowd of suppliers and municipal representatives.

Earlier he met with Bruce Grey United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn. Dobbyn says the minister seemed sympathetic to people who are struggling with their hydro bills.

She presented him with a list of concerns and felt the minister was listening.
