Rent Increase For Tenants at Heartland And Highlands Apartments

Rent is going up next year for tenants at Huron County's Heartland and Highands apartments for seniors.

Homes Director Barb Springall asked county council this week for permission to increase rates by 1.5%, and council approved the increase. Springall says costs for maintenance of the apartments continues to go up every year, and the 1.5% represents the annual cost of living increase and is the maximum increase the province allows.

The increase will go into effect January 1, 2017.
