Huron OPP Call Recent Vehicle Thefts Crimes Of Opportunity

Huron County OPP say they have investigated over 13 stolen vehicle occurrences since August 1, and in most cases the key were left in the ignition.

The OPP have been pushing the message "Lock it or Lose it" for about a year now, but now say, "Old habits die hard!"

The stolen vehicles include nine pickup trucks, one van, one ATV and one sport utility vehicle.

Police say the keys were in the vehicle 92% of the time, or close by in an unlocked garage.

Police say the owners may not have been victimized if they had secured their vehicles, removing the key, and locking it.
