Upgrades to Refresh Clinton Minor Baseball Diamond

The Clinton Minor Baseball Association is in the process of upgrading what was primarily the softball diamond.

Facilities Manager Steve Campbell says the goal is to improve the diamond so that softball up to the pee wee level can be played on the diamond as well as some hardball.

Campbell says that means expanding the dimensions of the field as well as improving the playing surface, creating more space between the back stop and home plate, altering the first base and third base fences and adding more lighting.

Campbell points out that they're not just adding three more lights, but replacing the current 12 lights with 18 newer lights so the light level will be considerably higher.

Campbell says he doesn't have any firm numbers but he estimates the cost of the upgrade will be around $40,000 and the Ball Association is asking the municipality to put up the money which would be repaid by the Association.

Campbell adds minor ball is very popular in Clinton in part due to the baseball camps that have been developed in Clinton and this year Kindardine, by Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb in conjunction with the major baseball and in particular for Toronto Blue Jays stars to help coach young players.
