Annual Fall Hike a Go at Bannockburn Conservation Area

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's annual Bannockburn Fall Hike takes place this afternoon at the Bannockburn Conservation Area on Mill Road between Varna and Brucefield.

This is the 43rd year for the Bannockburn Fall Hike and it's also part of the celebration of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's 70th birthday.

The ABCA was the first conservation authority in Ontario, formed in July of 1946.

Part of the boardwalk has been replaced for this year's hike and guided hikes are being offered again.

The guided hikes take about an hour and the first one leaves the parking lot at 1:30.

Conservation Educator Denise Iszczuk says the Bannockburn Fall Hike offers hikers hikers a chance to speak with conservation staff, learn about new conservation programs and how they can get involved.

And in the parking lot hikers can enjoy a fresh local apple and some apple cider and they are asked to bring their own mug to reduce waste.

The Bannockburn Fall Hike runs from 1pm to 3pm this afternoon, rain or shine.
