Election Reform Dialogue In Goderich Thursday

The Huron-Bruce Citizens for Proportional Representation is hosting an Electoral Reform Dialogue at the Huron County Museum in Goderich on Thursday.

Spokesperson Tony McQuail maintains the current electoral system is unfair, doesn't reflect the voters wishes, and is seriously outdated. He argues what he calls the first-past-the-post system ignores the Conservative votes in a Liberal riding and the Liberal votes in a Conservative riding.

The same would apply to the New Democrats and the Green Party to the extent that half of the votes cast in an election are not represented in the results. He adds that system worked fine when there were only two parties but now that there are a lot more views that should be represented in Parliament it's time to update the electoral system.

Tonight's meeting starts at 7pm at the Huron County Museum in Goderich.
