Public Meetings In Meaford Prior To Budget Approval

Municipal staff in Meaford are looking for ways to keep the increase in local property taxes below 1.7% next year.

Council has directed staff to prepare a draft budget with a tax increase of less than 1.69%.

Treasurer Darcy Chapman told council preliminary figures show a total of $13.33-million for Meaford’s 2017 tax-supported budget.

That would mean that the owner of a single-family house assessed at $263,000 would pay $33.48 more in municipal taxes in 2017.

Meaford has scheduled three public meetings this month.

The first will be at Trinity United Church in Annan on October 25. The next two meetings will be at Bognor Hall on October 26, and at Riverside Community Hall on October 27. All three meetings begin at 6:30pm.

Meaford council is expected to give final approval of the 2017 budget at an afternoon meeting December 12.
