The Lincolns Own the Third to Beat the Legionnaires

Chad Heffernan struck twice in third to lift the St. Marys Lincolns over the Sarnia Legionnaires 5-2.

Justin VanBuskirk opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the first period to give Sarnia a 1-0 lead.

Alessio Luciani put the Lincolns on the board just over two-and-a-half minutes into the second period. Bill Moskal scored six minutes later.

Sarnia's Joey Zappa tied the game at 7:08 of the third. Heffernan scored his first goal on the power play in the final five minutes of the frame. Moskal scored his second goal of the game a minute-and-a-half later. Heffernan struck again on the powerplay with just over two minutes left in the game.

Tristan Lewis stopped 33 shots for the Lincolns. Travis Moore took the loss for Sarnia, allowing all five goals on 40 shots.

The Lincolns are 4-10 this season and are one point up on last place St. Thomas in the Western Conference.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
