Apartment Complex Proposal For Bayfield Hits Opposition

A number of Bayfield residents have expressed opposition to a proposal for four three-storey apartments buildings near the corner of Hwy. 21 and Cameron St. at the south end of the village.

Bayfield ward councillor Bill Whetstone emphasized that residents want the 8-acre property behind the new Foodland to be developed, but they're concerned about the kind of development that takes place there. They also don't feel the proposed development is consistent with the heritage nature of the village of Bayfield.

The proposal calls for about 120 units on just under 8 acres of land and many people felt that was just too many people for the size of the property.   Some residents have pointed out the corner of Hwy. 21 and Cameron St. is already a very busy corner and adding many people will only make it worse.

Whetstone adds it's just an application for consent at this time, but he's urging anyone with concerns to make them know now, rather than later.

The issue will be on the agenda for the November 7 Bluewater council meeting.
