Owen Sound Police and OPP Seize Explosives And Drugs

Police have laid numerous charges after the discovery of explosive devices and drugs in Owen Sound.

On Saturday, police and EMS responded to a call of a man with no vital signs in an Owen Sound hotel room.   Upon entry, an explosive device was found in the room, and a female in the room was placed under arrest.   The man was rushed to hospital and is recovering.  The OPP Explosive Device Unit was called in to remove the device, along with another one discovered in the room.

On Sunday, police raided a home in the 300-block of 11th St. E and discovered another explosive device. The OPP Explosive Device Unit was again called to assist.

On Monday, upon re-entering the home, police seized explosive device ingredients and the means of delivering such devices.   They also uncovered fentanyl in the form of pills, marijuana and stolen property in the home.

The 31-year-old man and 25-year-old woman  face five charges of possession of explosive substance for an unlawful purpose, as well as:

  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of proceeds of crime (currency)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon (flick-knife)
The man is also charged with breaching a condition of a probation order.

The Owen Sound Police Service say the investigation is ongoing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
