Natural Resources Minister Will Move Forward With Expanding Niagara Escarpment Lands

The minister of natural resources says she may make amendments to a plan to add 45,000 hectares of land to the Niagara Escarpment Commission, mostly in Grey Bruce.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker pressed the minister on Monday to abandon the proposal after a thousand of his constituents overwhelmingly rejected it.

Minister Kathryn McGarry says residents have a few more days to comment and then she will move forward with the proposal.

She explains, "All of us working together are going to be coming up with a plan that respects the landowners and does protect essential lands that we need to for bio diversity."

Walker says the plan will cost Grey County Taxpayers an extra $700,000 a year, and he called on the minister to hold meaningful consultations.
