West Grey Encouraged To Use Online And Telephone Voting

West Grey Committee of the Whole has asked staff to get cost estimates to use internet and telephone voting for the 2018 municipal elections.

Clerk Mark Turner says West Grey experienced low voter turnout in the last election, and all Grey County Clerks are recommending internet and telephone voting next time.

Meaford Clerk Robert Tremblay shared his municipality's experience with e voting, pointing out security features ensure the integrity of the process.

Tremblay says the system is accessible, and reduces the use of printed materials, as well as greenhouse gas emissions. It can also save time and money, providing instantaneous results.

Tremblay says the convenience encourages voting, and he found e-voting was highest among individuals 55 and over.
