Midwestern Ontario Jobless Rate Declines

The unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula economic region declined from 4.4% in September to 3.9% in October.

The provincial rate also declined from 6.9% to 6.6%.

There were 4,000 net new jobs in our region, but just a slight increase in full-time jobs.

A rebound in the local service industry is being driven by some new businesses at Goderich's Suncoast mall, the opening of the Amber Hotel in Grand Bend and the construction of the Chapman House hospice in Owen Sound.

Four County Labour Market Planning Board Director Gemma Mendez-Smith says the labour force grew by 3,300 while the unemployment rate fell.
