Community Support For CMHA Grey Bruce Food Forest Funding Request

The Canadian Mental Health Association's food forest in Owen Sound moves into the next stage of a competition for $100,000 from the Aviva Community Fund.

The CMHA Grey Bruce food forest finished fourth in the community resilience category.  Five of the 59 entries from across Canada made it to the next round.

1,300 people took the time to vote for the initiative.

A panel will now determine the winner.

The food forest at St. George's Park has been a community hub for three years, with a fruit orchard and raised produce gardens.

CMHA employs 12 clients as gardeners , and the harvest is sold at local markets, or used for a community brunch that feeds nutritious meals to about 60 people a day.

The money would help pay for a horticulturist , new pathways, a storage shed and herb drying station, parking, and washrooms.
