Council Works To Prevent Closure Of Maitland Golf And Country Club

Goderich Council will create a committee to study ways to save The Maitland Golf and Country Club

The non-profit organization has a $300,000 debt and faces receivership by spring.

A spokesman for the Future Options Committee, Grant Dawson, is looking for ways to save the non profit facility and says the club is a huge asset to the town. Dawson says he was pleased council decided last night to look at ways to help.

"We're looking to the town hoping they'll be able to get us out of this immediate crunch, and then maybe find a way forward that will make it into a sustainable organization in the future," he says.

Dawson says preferably the town will take over ownership of the club.

He says if the non profit is sold, the town might not have control over what happens to the $1.2-million piece of property.
